Mindy McCready Free at Last

It may be a new year, but time will tell if it's also a new Mindy McCready.

The trouble-prone country warbler was granted early release from Tennessee's Williamson County Jail Sunday after more than five months in lockup on a probation violation charge.

"I'm so happy to be out," the 32-year-old singer said. "I'm the happiest girl in the world right now."

McCready was greeted by her manager and family upon exiting the jailhouse—and kissing its gates—just after 9 a.m. Sunday. The "Guys Do It Every Time" songbird had been behind bars since July, when she was arrested in Florida on charges of battery and resisting arrest, stemming from a domestic dispute with her mother.

McCready was formally sentenced to a year of incarceration in September as a result of the Florida bust, which violated the terms of a 2004 drug arrest. In that case, she was sentenced to three years' probation for obtaining the painkiller OxyContin with a fake prescription.

At the time of her sentencing, the singer received credit for 75 days already served. Her term was further shortened for good behavior—something she plans on continuing outside the confines of jail.

McCready, whose woes include a suicide attempt, drug overdose and hospitalization after a beating from her ex-boyfriend, said she plans to turn her life around by focusing only on those things that truly matter to her.

"Oh, my God, I'm gonna work," she said. "Work, work, work. And sing. And go see my son, who I've missed more than anything you can possibly imagine."

McCready's son, 21-month-old Zander McCready, has been staying with the singer's mother at her Fort Myers residence since the country star's bust.

And while the sprung singer has completed her jail time, she has not yet made good on her debt to society. McCready will remain on probation for two more years.

The Baltimore Ravens on Monday fired coach Brian Billick, according to a report on the Baltimore Sun web site.

The move comes less than a month after Billick was assured he would return. The Ravens have scheduled a 3:30 p.m. ET press conference.

Billick was reportedly informed of owner Steve Bisciotti's decision a day after the Ravens wrapped up a dismal 5-11 season.

According to the report, the Ravens held their team meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Monday and Billick was not at team headquarters.

Billick, 53, is the winningest NFL coach in Baltimore history and guided the Ravens to their first Super Bowl title in January 2001.

Billick compiled an 85-67 record in nine seasons, but the Ravens, who won the AFC North championship in 2006, struggled to a 5-11 mark this season, including a nine-game losing streak.

Jim Leyritz pal was 'bikini teacher'

DAILY NEWS

Sunday, December 30th 2007, 4:00 AM

Before Erica Chevillar surfaced as Jim Leyritz's birthday buddy, she was the "Bikini Teacher" of Boca Raton, Fla.

The stunning blond made national news last year when she was forced out of her 10th-grade teaching job over sexy swimsuit shots that surfaced on the Internet.

Chevillar, 26, was a first-year social studies teacher making $33,000 a year when a parent complained about photos of her posing for the U.S.A. National Bikini Team.

She got a scolding from the principal at West Boca High School and resigned rather than fight disciplinary action.

Once word of the story - and the photos - spread, she parlayed the attention into a string of lucrative modeling gigs.

In March, she shed the bikini and everything else for a steamy spread in Playboy.

She insisted she held no hard feelings over her short-lived career in the classroom - and predicted her former students would check out the Playboy photos even if they weren't old enough to buy the magazine.

"I'm sure they'll find a way," she said.

jessica simpson collection

Jessica Simpson unveiled her new signature clothing line the, “Jessica Simpson Collection”, at Macy’s. I adore Jessica’s fashion sense and think she has wonderful taste, especially in shoes. I am a huge fan of her shoes. Although they are a bit pricey, ranging from about $60-$200, they are definitely worth it. I have quite a few pairs of pumps and they are comfortable, true to size and surprisingly easy to walk in. The ones with straps are very comfortable and make them more a lot more stable.

Jessica is always coming up with new items for her signature line and her other lines “Sweet Kisses” and “Princy”. You can purchase Jessica’s clothing lines at Macy’s, JCPenney’s, and Sears. The clothes are available in missy, junior and large sizes. There are various levels of pricing ensure that the collections offer something for every one of Jessica’s fans. The collections also include sportswear, denim, watches, and lingerie.

Benazir Bhutto Assassinated

Dec 27, 2007 03:46 PM

RAWALPINDI – Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan’s opposition leader and one of the country’s best known politicians, was assassinated today in a stunning suicide attack that also killed at least 20 others at a rally.

The death of the charismatic former prime minister threw the campaign for the Jan. 8 parliamentary election into chaos and stirred fears of mass protests across Pakistan, a key ally for the West in the war against terrorism.

A wave of violence had already begun by this evening. In anger and grief, protesters rioted in the southern port city of Karachi, firing shots at police, setting tires and cars on fire and burning a gas station. One person was killed north of Karachi in the violent aftermath of the assassination.

Violence also erupted in other cities in Pakistan.

President Pervez Musharraf blamed terrorists for Bhutto’s death and urged the nation to remain calm.

The attacker struck just minutes after Bhutto, 54, addressed thousands of supporters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, about 18 kilometres south of Islamabad, the capital.

She was shot in the neck and chest by the attacker, who then blew himself up, said Rehman Malik, Bhutto’s security adviser.

Sardar Qamar Hayyat, a leader from Bhutto’s party, said he was standing about 10 metres away from Bhutto’s vehicle.

“She was inside the vehicle and was coming out from the gate after addressing the rally when some of the youths started chanting slogans in her favour,” he said. “Then I saw a thin, young man jumping to her vehicle from the back and opening fire. Moments later, I saw her speeding vehicle going away.”

Party supporter Chaudry Mohammed Nazir said that two gunshots rang out when Bhutto’s vehicle pulled into the main street and then there was a big blast next to her car.

A doctor on the team that attended to Bhutto said she had a bullet in the back of the neck that damaged her spinal cord before exiting from the side of her head. Another bullet pierced the back of her shoulder and came out through her chest, he said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Bhutto was given an open heart massage, but the main cause of death was damage to her spinal cord, he said.

“This is the work of those terrorists with whom we are engaged in war,” Musharraf said in a nationally televised speech.

“I want to express my resolve and seek the co-operation from the entire nation and we will not rest until we eliminate these terrorists and root them out,” the president said.

Musharraf announced three days of mourning and convened a high-level emergency meeting. He was expected to discuss whether to postpone the election, an Interior Ministry official said.

Nawaz Sharif, another former Pakistani prime minister and leader of a rival opposition party, called on Musharraf to resign. He announced that his party is boycotting the Jan. 8 elections.

In Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper called the assassination a threat to democracy. He said the Jan. 8 election is important to democracy and urged Musharraf to let it go ahead.

Harper also said he’s concerned about increased instability in the region. Canadian troops are deployed in neighbouring Afghanistan as part of a NATO force supporting the Afghan government.

Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier condemned “in the strongest terms this attack ... Today’s violence is especially heinous in view of the upcoming elections on Jan. 8, 2008. The anti-democratic intent of the perpetrators could not be more obvious,”

In Crawford, Texas, U.S. President George W. Bush said: “The United States strongly condemns this cowardly act by murderous extremists who are trying to undermine Pakistan’s democracy. Those who committed this crime must be brought to justice.”

No one claimed responsibility for the assassination.

Bhutto’s supporters blamed the president for complicity, but suspicion was likely to fall on Islamic militants linked to Al Qaeda and the Taliban, who hated Bhutto for her close ties to the Americans and support for the war on terrorism. A local Taliban leader reportedly threatened to greet Bhutto’s return to the country from exile in October with suicide bombings.

At least 20 others were killed in today’s blast, according to an Associated Press reporter at the scene.

Bhutto was rushed to the hospital and taken into emergency surgery. “At 6:16 p.m. she expired,” said Wasif Ali Khan, a member of Bhutto’s party who was at Rawalpindi General Hospital.

Hours later, her body was carried out of the hospital in a plain wooden coffin by a crowd of supporters. Her body was expected to be transferred to an air base and brought to her hometown of Larkana.

Next to Musharraf, Bhutto was the best known political figure in the country. She had served two terms as prime minister between 1988 and 1996. She was respected in the West for her liberal outlook and determination to combat the spread of Islamic extremism, a theme she returned to often in her campaign speeches.

Her death will leave a void at the top of her Pakistan People’s party, the largest political group in the country.

As news of her death spread, supporters at the hospital in Rawalpindi smashed glass doors and stoned cars. Many chanted slogans against Musharraf, accusing him of complicity in her killing.

In Karachi, shop owners quickly closed their businesses as riots broke out. Fayyaz Leghri, a local police official, said gunmen shot and wounded two police officers.

One man was killed in a shootout between police and protesters in Tando Allahyar, a town 190 kilometres north of Karachi, said Mayor Kanwar Naveed. In the town of Tando Jam, protesters forced passengers to get out of a train and then set it on fire.

Violence also broke out in Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and many other parts of Pakistan, where Bhutto’s supporters burned banks, state-run grocery stores and private shops. Some set fire to election offices for the ruling party, according to Pakistani media.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who met with Bhutto just hours before her death, called her a brave woman with a clear vision “for her own country, for Afghanistan and for the region — a vision of democracy and prosperity and peace.”

Bhutto had returned to Pakistan from an eight-year exile on Oct. 18. Her homecoming parade in Karachi was also targeted by a suicide attacker, killing more than 140 people. On that occasion she narrowly escaped injury.

Bhutto was killed just a few kilometres from the scene of her father’s violent death 28 years earlier.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a former prime minister and the founder of the party that his daughter would later lead, was executed by hanging in 1979 in Rawalpindi on charges of conspiracy to murder that supporters said was politically motivated by the then-military regime. His killing led to violent protests across the country.

As Bhutto addressed the rally today, she was flanked by a massive picture of her father.

Minutes later, the area was awash in blood.

In other Britney Spears News

TMZ has learned Britney Spears had quite the interaction today with L.A. County Commissioner Scott Gordon, and she dug a hole deeper than a Louisiana swamp.

We're told Spears had a back and forth with the Commish that lasted approximately 40 minutes. She constantly interrupted him and at times was extremely sarcastic. At one point she started thanking the judge for what he had done, but her tone was heavily laced with disdain.

We're told the Commish explained to Spears how she had gotten to the point she's at -- why defying the various orders she was supposed to comply with raised concerns that she was not a responsible person. Spears didn't get it. She was at times contentious, argumentative and condescending.

We're told K-Fed's lawyer didn't object to her testimony, it was so bad. One description of today's testimony, pretty simple -- "Appalling."

Rachel Sterling: promo for Michael Crichton's book 'NEXT'

Rachel Sterling is HOT!

House Party: At Alexis Stewart's.

Alexis Stewart, daughter of Martha, throws house parties. This one was for an article that's going into Harpers Bazaar on her and her apartment -- which of course she is quickly going to move out of. While Alexis' house parties are probably nothing compared to Paris Hiltons house parties, there's always that curiosity factor of what goes on at these things.

Well now we have our answer from BusinessWeek editor David Kiley. Kiley writes over at his advertising and marketing blog Brand New Day and gives us an inside look.

Right off the elevator of her apartment, I am greeted with Dom Perignon Rose Champagne, 1995. A very good choice, though not quite as nice as 1996. I'm hungry and snag a shrimp on a toothpick. Good. Except now I'm having an honest to God Larry David moment. There's no obvious place to ditch the toothpick. Into my jacket it goes.

Interesting, though a little light on the details. Maybe there really were no details to delve into, though the Sirius meeting of Martha Stewart, Fiddy Cent and Howard Stern all in same room was an interesting part.

Meg White Sex Tape Scandal

The alleged Meg White Sex Tape has caused quite a stir. Meg White of The White Stripes, a band known for their raw low-fidelity sound, appears to have a sex tape blazing up bandwidth on the internet.

It sure does look like Meg but one cannot be 100% certain. And given the climate of fakes these days, one has to question the authenticity first.

On Sept 11, 2007 The White Stripes canceled their forthcoming engagements because Meg White was suffering from "acute anxiety".

We can't help but wonder if the anxiety is due to this sex tape that has splashed onto the web.

Nude Photo Scandal Vanessa Hudgens Returns Worn Shoes To Department Store

High School Musical’s naked photo scandal star, Vanessa Hudgens, is being branded a cheapskate after purchasing a pair of $1,200 of shoes then returning them to a store after a night out on the town. Employees were shocked to find the shoes ruined and a cheap Baby V still asking for her money back.

A source says: “These shoes weren’t gently worn. They were all torn up like she was dancing all night.”

“Department stores call those people ‘the renters,’ who return the stuff the next day. It’s unusual to do it with shoes, though.”

Hudgens, 18, and co-star boyfriend Zac Efron, 19, stopped by Chicago’s Neiman Marcus on their promotional tour for High School Musical last month, a US newspaper reported, before returning the next day. He bought her the shoes - a pair of Rene Caovilla heels.

A spokeswoman for Hudgens was unavailable for comment.

BRITNEY TO MAKE COMEBACK AT MTV AWARDS SHOW

Britney Spears will make her first big step toward a comeback when she opens the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Sept. 9, the network has confirmed. "She'll captivate everyone, and set the tone for rest of the night," the show's producer, Jesse Ignjatovic, says. "You can expect the things we want and expect from Britney — that will all be there." Ignjatovic says Brit — who will perform her single "Gimme More" from her upcoming album — has been consulting with illusionist Criss Angel on "some moments of the performance." He adds, "What I've seen of it is great. She'll be dancing, performing, doing her thing. That's exactly what we all want."

It has been reported that Disney has just fired her from all promotions from the company.

These photos are said to have come about because her boyfriend apparently took some innocently naughty pictures of her and looks like he has put them on the net.

Vanessa’s rep has released a statement basically confirming that it is Vanessa in the picture.

Her rep has said that “This was a photo which was taken privately. It is a personal matter and it is unfortunate that this has become public.”
